11-12th Grade

Comm. Central’s Classical Core:

  • Comm. Central embraces the principles of classical education, an important component of which is the integration of subjects for greater learning through studying multiple subjects within their historical context.
  • The history class is the organizing outline for literature as well as Fine Arts Survey and Government or Economics if the student hasn't obtained these credits yet.
    • We believe that conducting studies in this manner provides a greater ability to synthesize information in adjacent fields and allows the learning in these fields to inform each other.
    • When students can engage more with the culture, the lessons become more meaningful, and understanding and retention increases.
  • Comm. Central’s Classical Core follows a two-year rotation: World and American.
    • World Rotation:
      • World History I/II (concurrent course)
      • English III/IV - British Literature

Concurrent Classes FAQ:

What college are you working with to provide concurrent credit?

  • Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, AR

Are your concurrent classes online or in person?

  • The concurrent courses offered through Comm. Central are online courses.
  • Students will meet in person as a class twice per week with a knowledgeable facilitator who will discuss online lectures, aid with understanding, and provide accountability and community.
  • All high school students have to have one online course in order to graduate. These courses will meet that requirement.

What is required to enroll in concurrent classes?

  • Students will need to do the following:
    • Be a high school junior or senior
    • For ALL courses, provide an ACT test score with a 19 in Reading or Accuplacer score of 251 in Reading.
    • If taking a math course, provide an ACT test score of a 19 in math or Accuplacer score of 249 in math.
    • If taking an English course, provide an ACT test score of a 19 in English or Accuplacer score of 251 in Writing.
    • Complete an admissions application with SAU
    • Provide a high school transcript that demonstrates good academic standing (2.5 GPA or higher)

Will the concurrent course credit transfer to my student’s college of choice?

  • All courses Comm. Central has chosen are part of the Arkansas Course Transfer System and the ACTS number has been provided as part of Comm. Central’s course description.
  • If your student plans on attending an Arkansas public college or university, the transferability of these courses is guaranteed.
  • In addition, Comm. Central also chose courses that are a part of most colleges’ general education requirements; however, every college has a different set of requirements. Please check the general education requirements for your student’s intended college to verify the courses they need prior to enrollment. Also, check the ACTS number to verify the courses we are offering align.
  • It is suggested that students planning on attending a private university or out-of-state college retain a course syllabus for each concurrent class taken to assist their future college admissions officer in determining college credit to offer the student for these courses.
